Weapons remains one of the best and most creative original films of 2025 and was a massive hit at the box office. However, the film doesn’t leave any room for sequel potential.
Luckily for the studio, writer-director Zach Cregger has some ideas for more stories in the universe of the film.

The big twist of the film is that a witch named Aunt Gladys is the person behind all of the kids disappearing in the middle of the night. By the end of the movie, she gets what’s coming to her as all the children rip her apart.
Though she is dead, she was a very interesting character who was at times charming, but mostly terrifying and off-putting. One thing is for sure: there is a lot more to her backstory than Weapons lets on. If you’re hoping to learn more, you’re in luck.
There were rumors of an Aunt Gladys prequel that surfaced after Weapons’ success, and now, Cregger has confirmed it.
“It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it,” Cregger said in an interview with Fangoria. “There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not (expletive).”
I usually roll my eyes at the idea of prequels, but there’s so much mystery surrounding Gladys. Plus, Cregger has proven to be a very creative storyteller. I’ll be there on opening night if this film ends up getting made.
