Mick Jagger says he is already working on new music, just days after The Rolling Stones released their latest album, Foreign Tongues.
In his latest interview, the 82-year-old singer revealed that he has started writing new songs and said they could become another Rolling Stones album.
“Yeah, it could be a trio [of records],” Jagger told NME in a June 30 interview. “I’ve already started writing songs anyway. They could be for other people though. When you write a song, you sometimes decide, ‘That’s not for me, but it could be for the Chili Peppers’ or whatever.”
However, he added that some tracks may end up being recorded by other artists instead.
The band’s new album, Foreign Tongues, is their 25th studio release. It features a mix of rock, blues, soul, funk and R&B, along with guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Bruno Mars, Robert Smith of The Cure and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith.
Jagger said working with McCartney was simple because the Beatles legend quickly understood what the song needed. He also shared that Bruno Mars visited the studio while the album was being completed and even played the cowbell on one of the tracks.
Jagger also explained that he enjoys writing without worrying about who will perform the songs. He said not every idea suits The Rolling Stones, but that does not stop him from putting it down on paper.
Looking ahead, Jagger said The Rolling Stones hope to return to touring next year, although no concerts are planned for 2026.
