All-Star Montreal musicians will salute the songbook of Laurel Canyon, a neighbourhood in the Hollywood Hills that was the hub of the counterculture scene in Los Angeles in the 1960s and 70s. Carry On: The Songs Of Laurel Canyon, a benefit concert from Billy Bob Productions to help those in need following the wildfires in Los Angeles, will take place on Thurs. March 13 (7:30 pm) at Le 9e (1500 Robert Bourassa).
Laurel Canyon was home to many of the most influential singers, songwriters and bands of all time including Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt, The Byrds, The Doors, Love, Buffalo Springfield, Gram Parsons, Jackson Browne, The Eagles, Harry Nilsson, Fleetwood Mac, Warren Zevon and many others.
Drummer, band leader, co-owner of hotel2tango studio and award winning producer Howard Bilerman has assembled a house band of Montreal music vets including guitarist and vocalist Chris Velan, multi instrumentalist and vocalist Mike O’Brien (El Coyote), bassist Andrew Horton (El Coyote, Notre Dame De Grass, The Fireman), Simon Nakonechny (Key-Lites) on keys and Dylan Keating (Nora Kelly Band/Berta Boys) on pedal steel.
Special guest performers will include Murray Lightburn of The Dears, Jasmine Bleile (Ladies of the Canyon) Angela Desveaux, Katie Moore & Michelle Tompkins of El Coyote, Wood Andrews, Jeff Louch, Campbell Woods and guitar blazer Shane Murphy.
Money raised through ticket sales and on-site auction will go to two longtime Los Angeles charities. MusiCares was founded by the Recording Academy in 1989. CORPUS INSOLITE: The Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, renowned for its unique collections of historical, medical and religious artifacts, is proud to present a new exhibition, Corpus Insolite: Jana Sterbak. Running until Aug. 24, this exhibition invites visitors to experience Sterbak’s thought-provoking works in dialogue with the museum’s collections. She is a globally acclaimed, Montreal-based artist who has explored power, desire, and the fragility of existence, in works that frequently incorporate unconventional materials. These artworks resonate deeply with themes of mortality, transcendence, and transformation, as seen in both the medical and religious artifacts housed by the museum. For the exhibition, Sterbak and curator Johanne Sloan worked closely together to integrate Sterbak’s artworks into the museum’s exhibition spaces, while also selecting objects to be brought out of storage for the first time.
For example, Sterbak’s internationally recognized Vanitas: Flesh Dress for an Albino Anorectic, (the so-called meat dress), which was first shown in 1987, will be re-made for this exhibition, where it will be seen in the proximity of anatomic models and holy relics. This is thus a unique opportunity to re-discover the work of Jana Sterbak, while encountering the museum’s collections through an artistic imagination. In addition to the two works Sylvanus and Hot Crown, which have never before been shown in Montreal, Jana Sterbak’s internationally acclaimed Vanitas: Flesh Dress for an Albino Anorectic, first exhibited in 1987, will be remade for this exhibition. It will be linked, for example, to anatomical models and sanctified relics. This is a unique opportunity to rediscover the work of Sterbak, while discovering the museum’s collections through an artistic imagination. The mission of the Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal is to transmit the history of Montreal and its foundation, to publicize the history of the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, to exhibit the tangible and intangible heritage of the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph, and to explore the history of healthcare and the health sciences.
Four centuries of history can be traced through the museum’s fascinating collection, which is linked to the development of Montreal, to hospital, medical and pharmaceutical practices, and to religious art Located within Mount Royal’s protected area, in a delightful natural setting, the museum is part of one of the city’s best preserved convent complexes, home to the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph. The ensemble, built in 1861 to plans by the architect Victor Bourgeau, includes the order’s original monastery and garden, the hospital, three chapels, a crypt and the museum itself, housed in the former chaplains’ residence.

MONTRÉAL BORÉAL: La Société de Développement (SDC) Les Quartiers du Canal has brought us the return of Montréal Boréal – Le Jam du Nord, an outdoor winter event taking place until Feb. 16 in the Saint-Henri neighborhood. This winter street festival, now in its third edition, will span ten days along Notre-Dame Ouest street, between Lacasse and de Courcelle streets.
As in previous editions, the program offers a lively musical atmosphere, entertainment, a variety of family-friendly and sports activities, winter installations, enchanting decor, and outdoor furniture Although cold and snow are integral parts of Quebec’s heritage, traveling out of Montreal to enjoy winter activities is often challenging for many. That’s why Montréal Boréal’s mission is to bring Quebec’s folklore and winter culture to the Quartiers du Canal. NIEBO HOTEL: This month the Hôtel Le Germain Montréal will host NIEBO HOTEL, an immersive dance experience. This ambitious project brings together five partners from Montréal and abroad: Ballets Jazz Montréal, CAPAS, Danse Danse, Les Hôtels Le Germain, and La Parenthèse. The intimacy of this iconic metropolitan hotel is transformed into a stage where virtuosity brushes against the audience, blending art and hospitality in a significant transatlantic artistic collaboration. NIEBO HOTEL delves into the secret, grandly intimate stories that unfold within hotel rooms. Starring powerful choreography, the spectator enters a poetic world, becoming both witness and accomplice, voyeur and actor. Each room hosts a scene where memories, emotions, and human connections take shape through dance, music, and finely woven visual projections.
Visitors embark on a 60-minute custom journey. Each participant follows a unique path, immersing themselves in multiple performances staged in reimagined hotel rooms. Every step of the route – lasting between five and 10 minutes – gradually builds a narrative where the audience becomes the central character. The evening reveals its vibrant energy and unique story, where even the smallest gesture contributes to creating an unforgettable moment. This extraordinary tour of a hotel – honored in 2024 by the prestigious Michelin Guide – can be enhanced with a drink or a gourmet menu through additional upgrade options.
The audience is invited to experience exceptional closeness with the performers of the world-renowned Montréal-based company Ballets Jazz Montréal (Dance Me, Vanishing Mélodies). Their performances are shaped by the vision of French choreographer Christophe Garcia, in collaboration with Alexandra Damiani, artistic director of Ballets Jazz Montréal and a key figure in Quebec’s dance scene. The artists’ talent shines in this intimate and evocative setting.
NIEBO HOTEL is the result of an ambitious collaboration between France and Quebec. CAPAS, Ballets Jazz Montréal, Danse Danse, La Parenthèse and Hôtel Le Germain Montréal combine their expertise to reinvent the relationship between art, culture, and tourism.
