CANCELED: A Concert to Benefit the Haitian Hub

Friday Night Folk will host a concert to benefit New London’s Haitian Hub Resource Center, Love Songs in a Challenging Time, featuring local performers the Rivergods, Geoff Kaufman, Dan and Liz Spurr, Liliane Andres, Elastic Folks, Geoff Mitchill Band, Jake and Amanda, and Gilead Road; the New London Haitian Church Youth Drum Corps and performers from Shekinah Haitian SDA Church; and Denise Walstra. Rhode Island Philharmonic

Aftermath: Memorializing the Battle of Gettysburg, Part 1.

The Babcock-Smith House Museum will host a talk by John Linton on David Wills and the creation of the Gettysburg National Cemetery and Soldiers’ National Monument, David McConaughy and the creation of the Gettysburg Battlefield Memorial Association, the formation of the Grand Army of the Republic and its lobbying of state legislatures to fund their regimental monuments, and the bid process focusing on the Smith Granite company and their agent W.B. As part of the Black Voices series and to commemorate Black History Month, the United and Westerly Anti Racism Coalition will present a screening of the film “John Lewis: Good Trouble,” followed by a post-film discussion framing Lewis and his work as a model for advocating for change today.
