Seu filho mais velho, o grande duque Guillaume hereditário, herdará o trono do Luxemburgo.
Após a abdicação de seu pai no Grand Ducal Palace na sexta-feira, Guillaume assumirá o trono e jurará em frente ao parlamento de 60 membros do Luxemburgo.
A família também se reunirá na varanda do palácio na capital logo após o meio dia, terminando com uma recepção na prefeitura.
Depois de suceder seu pai, Guillaume fará uma turnê pelo país, com as festividades terminando em uma missa de domingo liderada pelo arcebispo Jean-Claude Hollerich na Catedral de Notre-Dame.
Para observar, durante o discurso de Natal em dezembro de 2024, o Grand Duke Henri, do Luxemburgo, anunciou oficialmente seus planos de abdicação depois de ter sugerido seus planos no início de outubro.
