Katherin Mejía Argueta, a Honduran content creator known online as “La Mazorca,” was found dead on April 17. She was 17.
According to local outlet El Heraldo, Argueta’s body was discovered on Friday on an African palm tree plantation less than a mile from the CA-13 highway in Tocoa, Honduras, by those traveling through the area. Citing National Police, the outlet reported that the content creator had been partially decapitated and her face was bloodied.
“It is assumed that the motive for her death is revenge,” Police Commissioner Wilber Mayes told the outlet.
As part of the police investigation, per El Heraldo, a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Argueta’s death.
PEOPLE has contacted the National Police for comment.
On TikTok, Argueta had tens of thousands of followers, where she was known for sharing videos dancing to popular songs on the platform. She seemingly shared her final post on April 15, just two days before her body was discovered by authorities.

Speaking to El Heraldo, Argueta’s mother said that her late daughter had told her that she was “going out with a friend.” She also claimed that one of the friends Argueta had been with the night she went missing told her that “three armed men” had “grabbed her, dragged her and put her in a gray sedan.”
“It’s a pain no mother expects,” continued Argueta’s mother. “This is hard. You’d rather die, seeing a daughter lying like this, even worse a female. I never imagined that this could happen to me.”
In the comments of her final post, friends and followers shared tributes and messages for the late content creator.
