A festival founded by mothers in 2006 aiming to showcase music and talent in the Cariboo is celebrating 20 years of formation.
Arts on the Fly festival in Horsefly is on from July 10 to 11 featuring 26 musical acts, events like square dancing, burlesque, yoga, visual arts and the kids zone.
President of the Arts on the Fly festival, Leah Martin, shared how the Cariboo has had a rich history within the Gold Rush Trail, which attracted people who brought in their dance and music culture.
“The town itself has drawn a lot of artsy people into the boonies to be more in their artistic self, recluse to work on their art. A lot of good music and musical families are out of Horsefly. We’ve got the famous Juno Award winners Pharis and Jason Romero, who always showcase at the festival and this year they have a new album out. It’s just always attracted to the blend of arts and music and culture in the Cariboo and Horsefly.”
This year, the society has added more art to the festival, along with a horse drawn carriage that can shuttle people around the festival.
The festival also has a willow sculpture auction, created by the board members and volunteers.
