Cool like dat
Hip-hop trio Digable Planets formed in 1987 and, along with groups like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, helped create and popularize the jazz rap genre. Their first album featured the top-40 hit “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat),” which sampled jazz musician Art Blakey. The group will perform at Memorial Union’s Shannon Hall, 800 Langdon St., with experimental rapper MIKE in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and is free to attend, but tickets are required.

FRIDAY, JAN. 30
Mom’s night out
Ten years ago, comedians Kristin Hensley and Jen Smedley had a revelation in Hensley’s kitchen: “Maybe if we show moms the bad job we are doing they will feel better about the job they’re doing.” This idea birthed a podcast (#IMOMSOHARD), a book and a series of comedy tours. Get a sitter for “IMOMSOHARD: The Flashback Tour,” doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. this Friday at the Barrymore Theatre, 2090 Atwood Ave. Tickets start at $53.65.

Madison Circus Space hosts a performance of “Kishka!” Jan. 31.
SATURDAY, JAN. 31
Extra stuffed
The central figure in the Madison Circus Space performance of “Kishka!” is a rogue sausage gone missing from the local butcher shop. Madison Circus Space, 2082 Winnebago St., originally mounted this zany show, which draws on polka music and the antics of silent films, in April 2025. This souped-up version features “more aerial artistry, powerful acrobatics, masterful juggling and epic dance numbers.” Performance start at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $12 for kids.

Six more weeks?
Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog said to be the harbinger of spring, may live in Pennsylvania but celebrations of the near end (or six weeks more) of winter take place across the nation, including in Sun Prairie. The 78th Annual Groundhog Day Prognostication will take place at downtown Sun Prairie’s Cannery Square. Dane County’s hog is named Jimmy, and he’s got a pretty good track record of predicting whether spring is near. The festivities begin at 6:45 a.m. with Jimmy’s prediction happening at sunrise at 7:11 a.m.
