Celebrate Black film

The Black Film Festival, presented by the Nehemiah Center for Urban Leadership Development, will screen nine films throughout the city at different Madison Public Library locations. Madison filmmaker Rafael Ragland will have two movies screened: β€œThe Comforter” and β€œEchoes of Freedom,” both released in 2025. The festival wraps up on Saturday at Central Library, 201 W. Mifflin St., with a performance from the New Gen Collective, led by former youth poet laureate Justin Festge Russell. Free, but registration is requested.Β

Little Women

β€˜A great many things’

Watch the March sisters sing songs of love, gender roles and longing for material comforts in β€œLittle Women” at the Mitchell Theatre, 821 University Ave. The musical, staged by UW-Madison’s University Theatre, is an adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s beloved coming-of-age story, with anthems like β€œAstonishing” and Jo’s song to ill Beth, β€œSome Things Are Meant to Be.” Tickets start at $10 for students and go up to $28 for general admission seats.

Lights and libations

Everything tastes better under twinkle lights. Grab a drink and explore Henry Vilas Zoo, 702 S. Randall Ave., all lit up during Brew Lights. Vendors include Delta Beer Lab, The Cider Farm and Untitled Arts. Attendees can enjoy carousel rides, LED-powered games like cornhole and shuffleboard. General admission tickets start at $50 (designated drivers pay $25). Gates open at 5:30 p.m. If you can’t make it, the Olin Park Holiday Fantasy in Lights starts on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 1156 Olin-Turville Court β€” drive through the park and see a fantastical display of lights that run through the season.

The Jazz Times called Samara Joy’s live shows β€œjust as breathtaking as experiencing her on wax.” The 23-year-old is a five-time Grammy Award-winning artist, including awards for Best New Artist in 2023 and Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2025. She comes to Madison’s Shannon Hall, 800 Langdon St., to showcase her electrifying voice and redefine what jazz looks like for a new audience. General admission tickets are $54 and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

A -5 windchill won’t stop the most intrepid cyclists β€” especially when they’re dressed for the occasion. The Winter Bike Fashion Show, hosted by Madison Bikes, prepares even novice cyclists for how to dress as temperatures drop, with a runway show featuring 12 models and demos, including a strip-down demo of winter gear and a practice station for loading bikes onto city buses. This free and family-friendly event takes place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m at the Goodman Community Center, 149 Waubesa St.
