She may be an ’80s sitcom icon, but Soleil Moon Frye is also a mother of four children.
The successful actress and documentarian, 49, who rose to superstardom as everyone’s favorite adoptee on the beloved TV series Punky Brewster, loves life these days as a mom. As a little refresher, the show followed Brewster, a little girl abandoned and taken in with her golden retriever, Brandon, by her foster parent, Henry Warnimont, a curmudgeonly older man in Chicago. Hilarity and lots of heartwarming lessons ensued!
In a new Instagram post, Frye shared a photo alongside her 20-year-old daughter, Poet. But what will knock your socks off about the photo is that Poet is a dead ringer for her mom at that age.
“Time with my girl under the sun, moon & sparkling sky’s. I love you @poet_siennarose. These days & nights together will forever be treasured. ✨⭐️✨,” Frye captioned the photo, which showed the duo hugging under the sunset by the waterfront.
Don’t miss the comment from the one and only Cherie Johnson, with whom Frye co-starred on the beloved series! Stay out of those refrigerators, Cherie! (If you know, you know.)
She Doesn’t Feel Her Age
For an actress and documentarian who’s always associated with being a child star, Frye admits she doesn’t feel anywhere near her 49 years. In a recent interview, she admitted that she feels like she’s “graduating from my teens to my 20s. I’m entering my 20s. I am still such a kid in so many ways.”
“I have this joy for life and discovery and adventure and excitement that feels incredibly youthful — and at the same time, this incredible gratitude and appreciation for the experience. Sometimes I’ll look at pictures of when I was in my teens and 20s, and I’m like, look at that young woman and how beautiful and full of life she is. I really didn’t see it at the time. I had so many insecurities,” Frye told Yahoo Life back in May. “I cared about what the world thought. I didn’t have that level of self-love, so I wasn’t really able to appreciate the beauty of what was. So I’ve really made it a point for myself, in this moment, that I really want to appreciate all the different versions of myself, so that when I’m 80, 90 or 100 years old, looking back, I can be like, Wow, you really were able to feel that moment and appreciate [it]. That’s something that I work on on a regular basis.”
Soleil Moon Frye Has a Thriving Career as a Director
While Frye is always associated with her childhood career, she’s actually a thriving director in adulthood. Earlier this year, she directed Paramount+’s documentary The Carters: Hurts to Love You, about the childhood abuse that Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter and his siblings dealt with. The film was told from the perspective of Angel Carter, who is the last surviving child besides Nick. Their other three siblings, Leslie Carter, Bobbie Jean, and Aaron, all died between 2012 and 2023 from drug-related causes, Variety reported.
