A mysterious social media post by one of the biggest rock bands of the 1980s has sparked rumors of an ex-member’s return after fans think they’ve spotted a cryptic clue in a new video upload.

On August 26, rock band Bon Jovi posted a new reel to their official social media pages. The black and white clip featured a vintage car pulling to a stop, with a license plate that read, “RDWT JRZY.”

The caption read, “Welcome to Jersey.” This was followed by a comment from Jon Bon Jovi who stated, “It’s happening.”

Neither the band nor the rocker gave further explanation regarding the clip in its caption. However, fans deduced the cryptic message reveals ex-guitarist, Richie Sambora, has returned to the band.

In the post’s comments section, fans shared their thoughts as to the message’s meaning. One wrote, “road world tour,” while another asked, “Does that RDWT mean Richie Does World Tour?”

Another fan speculated, “The boys are ready for us.” Others asked, “What is happening? Is this finally it?”

The Last Time Richie Sambora Toured With Bon Jovi

Richie Sambora’s last concert with Bon Jovi was on March 17, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas. He left in the middle of the band’s Because We Can world tour to focus on his family and has not toured with the band since.

Sambora addressed leaving his role as Bon Jovi’s lead guitarist and songwriter in the Hulu docuseries, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. In episode three, Sambora claimed leaving the band was an “amalgamation” of things, including “deep family problems.”

He explained, “I spent so much time being on the road. At that time, unfortunately, my ex-wife (Heather Locklear) was having some mental health issues, and my daughter was coming to an age where she could understand.”

In the docuseries, Jon was subsequently asked when he realized Sambora’s departure was permanent. He admitted, “10 years later, I still haven’t.”

Sambora added in a 2024 interview for The Allison Hagendorf Show that he wouldn’t rule out a reunion. “The fans will just love it. It’s not finance, it has nothing to do with [that]. The world could use it.”

“But, as Jon said, he’s been having problems with his voice, and now he has had that operation.… It’s an iffy thing at best. I don’t know if there’s anybody who has ever had that be successful. I’m not really sure about that. And I went to his house, and we talked about it.”

Jon Bon Jovi’s Vocal Surgery

The last time Bon Jovi toured was in 2022. Following, Jon had major surgery to repair his vocal cords.

PEOPLE Magazine reported the singer revealed he underwent major surgery on his vocal cords. He shared that one of his vocal chords was “atrophying.”

“The strong one was pushing the weak one aside, and I wasn’t singing well,” he said. “My craft was being taken from me.”

Jon’s recovery includes hours of vocal exercises and other methods to help his vocal chords regain their strength and stability. The results of his recovery process was evident on the band’s 16th studio album, Forever, released in 2024.

However, the entertainer claimed that the ultimate goal was to be able to get back to live performing. “Although I’m well on the road to recovery and was able to take my time and do a song a day when I made the record, my need, want, desire is to be able to do two-and-a-half hours a night four nights a week for months on end. And so I’m working towards that goal.”

While nothing is officially confirmed, the combination of the social media post, Jon’s comment, and the band’s milestones has fans speculating wildly about a potential reunion with Sambora. Whether it signals a full-scale tour or a special performance, fans are eagerly awaiting more details.
