Fans heading to Comic-Con in San Diego, California, were shocked to hear of Hulk Hogan’s death.

  • Celebrities Hulk Hogan and Ozzy Osbourne were two of the well-known pop culture icons to die the week of July 21, 2025.
  • Malcolm-Jamal Warner of “The Cosby Show” and Chuck Mangione, a jazz musician who achieved crossover success, also died.

It’s been a bad week if you’re Gen X, a child of the ’80s, or a fan of music or professional wrestling.

Four celebrities left us this week, including giants like WWE professional wrestler Hulk Hogan and rocker Ozzy Osbourne, known for Black Sabbath as well as his solo work. Fan favorites Malcolm-Jamal Warner of “The Cosby Show” fame and jazz trumpeter and composer Chuck Mangione, whose music found new life on “King of the Hill,” also died this week.

As their fans mourn their deaths, here’s a quick look back at the lives and careers of the four.

WWE superstar Hulk Hogan dies at 71

Hulk Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) died Thursday, July 24, in Clearwater Beach, Florida, at age 71. According to USA TODAY, the Clearwater Police Department received a call to a residence for a reported cardiac arrest. Hogan was treated at the scene and transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hogan rose to prominence as a wrestler in the 1970s but attained superstardom in the 1980s as part of the World Wrestling Federation, now the WWE.

Locally, his last string of Cincinnati appearances came in August last year, the Enquirer reported, when he visited Oxford and Liberty Township Kroger stores and select bars as part of an Ohio tour to promote his premium beer brand Real American Beer. He then hosted a meet-and-greet at the Liberty Township Kroger location.

Ozzy Osbourne dies at 76, weeks after final Black Sabbath show

Grammy-winning rocker Ozzy Osbourne, nicknamed the Prince of Darkness, died Tuesday, July 22, in Birmingham, England, at age 76. He died just weeks after reuniting with Black Sabbath for a final show in England.

Osbourne, born John Michael Osbourne, enjoyed more than five decades in the spotlight, first as a member of Black Sabbath before branching out on his own, USA TODAY reports. In the 2000s, Ozzy became a reality-TV star with his wife, Sharon, and two of his six children.

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Theo on ‘The Cosby Show,’ dies in drowning at 54

Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his role as Theodore Huxtable in the 1980s sitcom “The Cosby Show,” died Sunday, July 20, in an apparent drowning off the coast of Costa Rica, USA TODAY reports. He was 54.

A preliminary investigation found Warner was allegedly swept away by a current while in the Caribbean Sea.

In addition to eight seasons on the hit NBC sitcom, Warner was also known for his role as Malcolm McGee in the 1990s UPN sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie” and as Dr. AJ Austin on the Fox medical drama “The Resident” from 2018 to 2023.

Chuck Mangione, whose jazz songs found new life on ‘King of the Hill,’ dead at 84

Chuck Mangione, a prolific composer and musician who released 30 albums in his career, died July 22, USA TODAY reports. He was 84.

A celebrated composer and virtuoso flugelhorn and trumpet player, Mangione began taking music lessons at age 8 and played in a jazz combo with his pianist brother, Gap, during his high school years.

His 1977 single “Feels So Good,” off an album of the same name, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Feels So Good” also became a bit on TV’s animated “King of the Hill,” where it was frequently referenced, with Mangione nabbing a recurring voice-acting role.
