Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction, and nowhere is that clearer than in Ron Howard‘s upcoming survivalist thriller Eden. The film is based on true events that took place on Floreana, a remote island in the Galapagos, in 1929, when three separate groups attempted to settle the desolate locale. The would-be inhabitants quickly began to sabotage the others’ efforts, eventually resulting in several deaths and conflicting accounts of what actually happened.
The movie version stars Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby as pair of philosophical survivalists who are joined by Daniel Brühl, Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Tittel, as a religious family extremely ill-equipped to deal with the island’s harsh conditions. The third faction, helmed by Ana de Armas as a wealthy Baroness intent on building a resort, sparks a war on the island that plays out like Survivor meets The Hunger Games.

Eden premiered to strong reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and will arrive in theaters on Aug. 22, 2025. Ahead of its release, check out Parade‘s exclusive sneak peek, featuring a scene in which the Baroness hosts a luncheon upon her arrival on the island to meet the other inhabitants. What starts as a seemingly kind gesture quickly grows tense as the other settlers bristle in the presence of the Baroness’ glib attitude.
