Kelly Clarkson will reportedly be returning to “The Kelly Clarkson Show” after a long hiatus.
The beloved singer and TV show host’s future has been uncertain for months, and even more so after the death of Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
According to a confirmation from People, Clarkson “will return for season 7 in the fall.”
Blackstock was 48. His rep told NBC in a statement that he died after a year-long battle with cancer.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” the statement read. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.”
Clarkson’s mysterious disappearance from the show takes on a new light with the reveal of Blackstock’s death. During that time, celebrity guest hosts, including Brooke Shields, Wanda Sykes, and Josh Groban, filled in for Clarkson, contributing to speculation surrounding Clarkson’s absence.
Fans of the “Stronger” singer are now connecting her time away to her ex-husband’s illness, alluding that she may have been spending more time with family as Blackstock battled cancer.
On Aug. 7, Clarkson posted to Instagram and explained she had to cancel the remaining shows at her Vegas residency due to her late ex-husband’s illness.
“Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas,” Clarkson wrote. “ While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding.”
Blackstock and Clarkson are the parents of two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9.
Clarkson is a two-time Grammy-winning artist, who is most known for “Breakaway,” “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” and “Because of You.”
