Dolly Parton is shining a spotlight on a brand-new stage production in Nashville.
DOLLY: A True Original Musical opened last Friday at the Fisher Center of Performing Arts. The 79-year-old entertainer wrote the music and lyrics for the song, and also collaborated with Maria S. Schlatter on the book. The musical is a theatrical retelling of Parton’s life and career, starring Katie Rose Clarke, Carrie St. Louis and Quinn Titcomb, who lead the cast as Parton in different phases of her life. The cast also includes John Zdrojeski as Porter Wagoner, John Behlmann as Carl Dean, Jacob Fishel as Sandy Gallin, Beth Malone as Judy Ogle, Tabitha Lawing as Little Judy Ogle and Danny Wolohan as Uncle Bill.
So far, the musical has received many positive reviews from audience members, fans and critics.
On Tuesday night, the “9 to 5” singer reposted a reel to her Instagram story featuring a montage from the musical’s opening night red carpet, showcasing cast members and special guests as they posed for photos and gave interviews. Parton also included a link to buy tickets for the show, which runs until August 31.
The country music legend who rose to fame in the late 1960s and has since built a decades-long career as a singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist. Beyond music, she’s starred in many films, launched multiple business ventures and founded the Imagination Library.
Dolly: A True Original Musical is Parton’s second musical theatre show, written after penning the original score to the 2009 Broadway musical 9 to 5, which was based on the film of the same name. The film co-starred Parton and featured her chart-topping hit title song, which also appeared in the musical version.
The musical features all her beloved hits such as “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “I Will Always Love You” and many new songs, making it perfect for listeners of the country singer.
