Led Zeppelin may be celebrated worldwide for rock anthems like “Black Dog” and “Stairway to Heaven,” but frontman Robert Plant believes fans are missing out on some of the band’s most powerful material.
In a recent interview with Mojo Magazine, Plant opened up about overlooked songs that showcase the true innovation of the legendary group.
“Most people have missed some of the best Zeppelin stuff,” Plant said, pointing to tracks that often go unnoticed.
He highlighted “For Your Life” and “Achilles Last Stand,” both from the 1976 album Presence, as standout tracks.
“‘For Your Life’, on Presence. ‘Achilles Last Stand!’ F***ing hell. Just extraordinary that three people and a singer can do that,” he reflected.
Looking back on the chemistry between his bandmates, John Bonham, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, Plant had nothing but praise.
“Really, they were pulling so much stuff out of the unknown, Bonham and Jones together on ‘For Your Life’. It’s just insane. And Jimmy, just…” His excitement was quite clear as he remembered the groundbreaking sessions that helped shape Led Zeppelin’s legacy.
Formed in 1968, Led Zeppelin became one of the most influential rock bands in history. Their fusion of blues and hard rock helped define an era, with albums like Led Zeppelin IV, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffiti becoming essential listening for anyone who loved the genre.
Yet, as Plant suggests, deeper cuts like those on Presence continue to deserve more recognition.
Though the band split in 1980 following Bonham’s death, Plant’s musical journey didn’t end. He went on to have a successful solo career and remains active decades later.

When asked about performing only Zeppelin hits, Plant offered a candid perspective. “What were the hits? How can they be related to now, where do they fit? They fit as a sort of memoir.” He added, “When people say that I don’t like ‘Stairway To Heaven’, I just don’t like the idea of it. These iconic things – they’re just what they are.”
Now approaching his 77th birthday, Plant shows no signs of slowing down. In 2019, he formed the band Saving Grace, a departure from the rock sound fans remember, known instead for its acoustic, folk-influenced style.
The group quickly gained attention, launching a U.S. tour just a year after forming. Their debut studio album is set for release on September 26, 2025, marking a new chapter in Plant’s ever-evolving career.
