Country music legend George Strait picked up some praise from Donald Trump on Wednesday, and he will also be getting an honor from the president.
That is because Strait was among those named by Trump in the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors Class. He was joined by KISS, Sylvester Stallone, actor Michael Crawford and Gloria Gaynor.
“The first is country music star, actor and producer George Strait,” Trump said Wednesday as he announced the class. “Great. Over an extraordinary four decade career, George has sold over 120 million records worldwide, amassed 60 #1 hits, and produced 33 platinum certified albums, more than any other living American. That is amazing.
“He is believed by millions of people to be as good as you can get, and he is beloved by hundreds of millions of people all over the world. He’s really something, and they call him ‘The King of Country,’ and we know him very well. George Strait.”
Trump was not done with his praise for Strait, though.
“Looks nice,” Trump said when Strait’s photo was revealed. “Good looking guy. Hope he still looks like that.”
The Kennedy Center honors are slated to take place in December and will air on CBS.
Strait, who is 73, began his career in 1976 and is still active. He has churned out more than 33 records across his career.
He was named the Artist of the Decade for the 2000s by the Academy of Country Music, and was CMA Entertainer of the year in 1989, 1990 and 2013. He was the ACM Entertainer of the Year in 1990 and 2014.
He is also a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
