As part of the Grand Ole Opry’s continuing 100th anniversary celebration, on Aug. 14, two of the most unique and youngest entertainers to ever grace the Opry House stage were special guests.
Fresh from Sesame Street to Music City, four-year old Abby Cadabby and her three and a half year old best friend, Elmo, debuted during an edition of Opry Country Classics.

“Music is everywhere and the more we interact with it, the more magical it is,” said Abby Cadabby.

For those keeping score at home, Alaina and Tayla Lynn have joined Grammy winner Chris Stapleton on the list of country singers who have performed with Abby Cadabby and Elmo over the past three weeks.
Several Grand Ole Opry members — including Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood — have also appeared on Sesame Street over the decades.
On a recent episode, Stapleton performed “You’ve Got a Friend in Music” alongside Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Bert, Ernie, Cookie Monster and Grover.

Abby said the song is all about “music and friends,” before Stapleton — accompanied by an acoustic guitar — sang: “Music is the sound of your friends gathering around, and the smiles and the frowns on their faces.”
“Music brings people together,” added Elmo. “Chris Stapleton reminds us that music is a universal language.”
Stapleton joins fellow acclaimed stars SZA, Noah Kahan, Reneé Rapp, and Samara Joy in making guest appearances on Sesame Street’s 55th season.
What else do Abby Cadabby, Elmo love about country music?
“Elmo got to stand in the circle in the middle of the stage and sing. It was really cool,” he added during an interview with The Tennessean.
Elmo said he loved the outfit he got to wear on the Opry stage, which included an electric blue cowboy hat and bolo tie. He also said that he’s into taking line dancing lessons back home on Sesame Street.
Abby Cadabby said she was partial to the banjo and wanted to potentially duet with Big Bird, while Elmo loved fiddles and wanted to perform “Jolene” with Dolly Parton.
