Keagan Smith provides the latest injury updates for Royals catcher Salvador Perez after he was scratched ahead of Monday’s game vs. the Rangers.
With a couple of hours remaining before first pitch of Monday’s Kansas City Royals vs. Texas Rangers matchup, a star has been scratched from the home team’s lineup.
Nine-time All-Star catcher Salvador Perez will miss today’s contest due to illness.
Perez is having a bit of a down year, but he’s still a mainstay of the Royals’ lineup. He slashes .244/.288/.449 with 42 runs, 70 RBI and 22 homers.
With Perez now out, veteran journeyman Luke Maile takes his place behind the plate against Texas on Monday evening.
This series could prove vital in deciding the AL Wild Card spots once the MLB Postseason rolls around. The Royals are 63-61 with a 1.5-game lead over the 62-63 Rangers, though both teams are at least four games shy of the coveted playoff berth.
