Jason Aldean spent a chunk of last year in the headlines for his controversial song “Try That In A Small Town,” and for his support of President Donald Trump.
While those might be polarizing things, what the singer did over the weekend should not be.
Aldean made good in a big way after DJ Daniel called on him to help kids with cancer.
Daniel, the 13-year-old made famous when his brave battle against brain cancer was highlighted during President Donald Trump’s address of Congress earlier this year, called on Aldean back in early June via a TikTok video.
“Hey does anybody know Jason Aldean?” Daniel said in a TikTok video. “Cause we’re trying to do a country show down here to raise money for kids with cancer.”
Aldean, with Darius Rucker by his side, responded and promised to get Daniel, who is once again battling brain cancer, to a show to talk about it. That apparently happened during the singer’s performance in Houston on Friday as video shared to TikTok showed the emotional moment that Aldean brought Daniel onstage.
“I got to tell you, I spent a few hours with this guy today,” Aldean told the cheering crowd. “And I’ll tell you, he’s a kid that will brighten your day up, and I’m not kidding. This guy is pretty unbelievable right here.”
Daniel then held up a heart symbol to the crowd.
“And so, with the help of our sponsors, Patriot Mobile and also the Houston Astros, we were able to give Heroes for Children today a check for over $200,000 to help kids.”
In another clip, Aldean told the crowd that Daniel “should be an inspiration to everybody fighting, battling every single day.”
“This is what it’s all about right here,” he said pointing at Daniel. “He has a great dad in his corner, and I just want to say thanks for letting me hang out with you today. You asked us to raise some money and that is exactly what we did so … we love you man. We’ll stay in touch. We are buddies now, man.”
“Class act Jason!!!” one person wrote. “Love this young man and his family!!!”
“OMG I’ve waited for this,” another wrote.
Aldean shared a couple of photos with Daniel on X, and also a photo of Heroes for Children receiving its charity check.
“What a great weekend getting to hang out, play a little mini golf, and raise $200,000 for (Heroes for Children),” he wrote. “Shout out to one of the bravest (and funniest) kids I’ve ever met — DJ Daniel, plus my friends at (Patriot Mobile) and the (Astros) for making it possible.”
Fans also showed up there to praise Aldean.
“This made my day!” one person wrote. “Thank you, Jason! You showed not all heroes wear capes some wear cowboy and baseball hats!! We love DJ!!”
The White House shared the heartbreaking news of Daniel’s relapse on X on May 30.
“We’re lifting up Agent DJ Daniel in prayer after his dad, Theodis, shared that DJ is now facing three new tumors,” The White House account posted on X and Facebook. “DJ is one of the strongest, bravest young men — and has now been sworn into 1,351 law enforcement agencies across the country.”
Aldean responded to Daniel’s video on June 5.
Aldean posted on X, “Hey DJ, heard u were looking for me…” along with the video that showed Daniel asking for help getting in touch with the singer.
The video then cut to Rucker.
“He DJ what’s up, it’s Darius Rucker and guess what, I heard you,” Rucker said. “I know Jason Aldean.”
That is when Aldean stepped into the frame.
“Hey what’s up DJ,” Aldean said with Rucker by his side. “Jason Aldean here. Got your message, and want to get you out to a show. Let’s talk more about doing a show or doing something to help the kids that you were talking about and we’ll be in touch my man.”
