Oglala Lakota multi-disciplinary artist Mato Wayuhi returns to his home state to perform Aug. 23 at The Levitt at the Falls.
The third annual Mitakuye Owas’iƞ * All My Relatives * Mitákuye Oyás’iŋ Festival is an all-day celebration of Native American music and art and will also feature performances by The Samson Brothers hoop dancers, Isanti, Dakotah Faye and Native hip-hop musicians Night Shield and Friends.
Designer Shinin’ Star Style will participate in a fashion show Aug. 23 as part of the All My Relatives music festival at The Levitt.
Wayuhi is a composer for the award-winning FX TV series, “Reservation Dogs.” He also composed music for the feature-length film “War Pony,” which won an award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022. He has received national attention for his influential story and music.
Wayuhi’s latest album, “Stankface Standing Soldier” released in 2023, is entirely self-produced and is a nod to his given last name “Standing Soldier.” The rap music is of Lakota influence with contemporary sounds.

“When you’re first making music, you want to have your pillars of identity,” Wayuhi said in a 2022 article with the Argus Leader. “Mine were sexuality, identity, culture, all these different things. I can firmly stand on those things as being a Native queer artist.”
Hoop dancers The Samson Brothers will perform Aug. 23 during the All My Relatives music festival at The Levitt.
The free outdoor festival will also include comedians, a vendor fair and fashion show, interactive children’s activities and an Emerging Artist Showcase at Rehfeld’s Art and Framing next door.
Next at the Levitt will be Talking Dreads on Aug. 28, The Ocean Blue on Aug. 29 and, for the final show of the season, Empire Strikes Brass on Aug. 30.
