Taylor Cole’s latest role has her starring opposite Ryan McPartlin in the new Hallmark Summer Nights flick, Double Scoop. The Texas native plays Nora who sets off to earn the business of a family-owned ice cream company for her ad agency back in New York. Her main obstacle? Her former colleague-turned-arch rival James (McPartlin) is attempting the same feat. But throughout the competition to land the account, Nora and James learn a lot of the harsh realities facing farmers today and they form a bond over their shared interest in finding a way to help.
Now, for some insider knowledge—Double Scoop is set in New York City and in rural Wisconsin, but that’s a little movie magic. This movie was filmed entirely in and around Birmingham, Alabama. Since this is also the home base for Southern Living, we were pretty excited to hear that but not surprised. The Magic City has so much to offer.
Cole agreed and told SL, “You could shoot any place that you wanted it to be, right here in this beautiful town with all this good food. And all these lovely people. I also noticed how beautiful the buildings were. There’s so much detail in the architecture. It was really mind blowing.”
During her three week stay, Cole made the most of this vibrant Southern city. “There are just so many different pockets of so many unique vibes and styles. And I thought that was really cool. I loved exploring the different spots and what each one had to offer.”
She added, “But nature, I’m a nature girl, nature and food..it was a great combination of both.” Cole said that she “went to hike all of the different parks that I could.”
And she explored Birmingham’s award-winning, diverse, culinary scene with the same vigor, dining at The Essential, Pogo Cocktail Bar, Miss Astrid’s Tavern, El Barrio, Current Charcoal Grill, and she even celebrated her birthday at a favorite visitors and locals alike, Bottega.
Cole, who travels all over the world to film movies and TV series, said that everywhere she goes she asks locals for recommendations for restaurants to try.
“Then I find it on Yelp and I make sure that I study the menu. That is what I do. And then get all of the good things. So even though it’s usually me and my husband, we order for a football team and we try it all because we don’t know when we’ll be back. Some people like amusement parks. I like restaurants. This is my indulgence. This is my happy place.”
But that wasn’t the only thing making her happy on location this time. Cole is a huge animal lover and much of this movie is set on a dairy farm. Most of those scenes were filmed at Paramore Farm in Harpersville, Alabama. “I did so many bucket list items that are probably not on anyone else’s bucket list, but I milked a cow. I bottle fed a baby calf. I held a baby goat. I mean, I did it at all. All dreams come true in one movie,” she said.
“Texas roots, you can’t take the Southern out of the girl,” she added with a hearty laugh.
Double Scoop premieres on Hallmark Channel on Saturday, August 23 at 8p/7p CST.
