In need of a new game spot? Main Event, a new game and entertainment center, is opening soon in Woodbury with activities like bowling, laser tag, arcade games and more.
Main Event first opened in Louisville, Texas, in 1998, and four years ago the company was purchased by Dave & Buster’s, according to general manager Michael Frisby. The location is the 70th US location and the first in Minnesota, according to Frisby.
“It’s such an energetic area,” Frisby said of Woodbury. “It’s a new and upcoming area. We just felt that Woodbury would be the best fit for our first location here. We’ve got two Dave and Buster’s in Minneapolis, and they do well, but since this is a growing area, there are so many people that we think we could do a lot of good over here.”
Main Event, just off Interstates 94 and 494, is located near the Topgolf venue that opened last fall in Woodbury.
Games, food and events
The Woodbury location opens Monday, Aug. 3, and features 124 arcade games from Connect Four to the Human Crane.
Frisby said the most popular games at Main Event are typically crane games and interactive games like racers with seats that move. He said he’s not sure what will be the most popular game in Minnesota, but he’s looking forward to finding out.
Some Main Event locations also offer virtual reality games and escape rooms, and while the Woodbury location does not, it does have laser tag in a jungle-themed room, and it will also feature Hyper Grid, an interactive video display game.
Each activity is individually priced, and prices vary. Frisby said Main Event will offer deals like Food and Fun, which starts at $19.99, includes an entree and a $10 game pass or Monday Night Madness, which costs $12.99 for an all-day activity or game pass (tickets cannot be earned using this package).
The location also includes billiards and bowling located next to the full-service bar/restaurant, which Frisby said not enough people know about. The restaurant serves items such as burgers, wings, smashed tacos, ribs, pizza and more.
Just outside of the bar/restaurant near the bowling alley is a self-service kiosk called “Snack Stop” where people can order food quickly in between activities.
Main Event also hosts events and parties, from corporate events to weddings to school field trips, with catering provided. The location features one large event space and two banquet areas, one of which includes six VIP bowling lanes.
Community footprint
Something important to Main Event, according to Frisby, is its community footprint.
“We invest in our people; we invest in our community,” Frisby said.
Frisby said the business is already partnered with a local charity and, during the “inaugural bowl” on opening day, the location will donate $10,000 to the charity
“On grand opening day, we will invite the chamber and city leaders out, they’ll all get on the lane and everybody bowls for the first time,” Frisby said. “It’s like breaking in the center.”
Main Event officially opens to the public at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 and the first 200 people in line win free laser tag for a year, Frisby said.
Ahead of the grand opening, the business is hosting another opportunity for people to win rewards.
“We lost a case of bowling pins, and we need the community’s help to find them,” Frisby said.
The “lost pins” are hidden in the city of Woodbury and a clue is posted to mainevent.com/woodbury-lost-pins every morning at 10 a.m.. When a person finds one of the pins, they get an invitation for them and up to five guests to VIP night, along with free games for a year.
So far five pins have been claimed with five more to be lost and found. The last hunt, on Tuesday, July 28, will be for the golden pin; whoever finds that one will receive free Main Event for life, Frisby said.
