Lady Gaga broke down in tears as she revealed how her fiancé and a close friend supported her ahead of her tour stop in New York City.
The performer, who took the stage in her hometown as part of her Mayhem Ball tour this week, became emotional as she reflected on the beginning of her career in NYC, where her dreams of stardom began.
The 39-year-old, who has additional dates scheduled at Madison Square Garden – on August 26, August 27, September 6, and September 7 – told the audience that she battled “really hard” for her dreams before achieving worldwide success.
She told her fans on Friday, “I think about walking on the concrete, going all around the city and just – I remember fighting really hard, fighting really hard for my dreams and what I believed in and for myself.”
Gaga said she spent some time with her friend China before her show in the city and told her, “I think I might just fight my way through this whole show, ’cause when I’m in New York, I fight. I gotta earn it, and I gotta go for it.”
But her friend had some “really special” words of support, the Abracadabra singer revealed, telling her, “Sometimes you don’t have to fight, you just have to show up.”
Gaga said her friend’s words “meant so much” to her, before adding that her partner, businessman Michael Polansky, also had some words of encouragement for her, reports the Mirror US.
The emotional singer told the audience, “Right before I came onstage, my fiancé, Michael, said, ‘When you go out there, let them fill you up.'”

Gaga then revealed that her second studio album, Born This Way, held deep meaning for her and “would not have been made without New York.”
While introducing her track Hair, she declared, “This is for all of you and for all your dreams, for maybe sometimes no more fighting, just showing up.”
Prior to her relationship with Michael, Gaga was previously engaged to Chicago Fire actor Taylor Kinney, though the pair parted ways in 2016.
Three years later, in 2019, Gaga discovered love once more with the tech entrepreneur during a grueling five-year struggle with her mental health. Reflecting on the difficult period she endured, the performer shared with The New York Times, “Yeah, I mean, I had psychosis. I was not deeply in touch with reality for a while. It took me out of life in a big way, and after a lot of years of hard work, I got myself back.
“It was a hard time, and it was actually really special when I met my partner because when I met Michael, I was in a much better place, but I remember him saying to me, pretty early on, ‘I know you could be a lot happier than you are.'”
The pair revealed their engagement in July 2024, with Michael proposing in an extraordinarily personal manner. “He actually proposed to me, with these blades of grass. He asked me a long time ago,” she disclosed to Mark Savage.
“We were in the backyard, and he said, ‘If I ever proposed to you, how do I do that?’ And I just said, just ‘get a blade of grass from the backyard, and wrap it around my finger, and that will make me so happy.'”
Earlier this month, we reported that the pop sensation, who is slated to appear as guest star Rosaline Rotwood in Wednesday’s second season, will drop a fresh music video accompanying the song Dead Dance. Crafted with her Mayhem collaborators Andrew Watt and Cirkut, the number is expected to debut next month, featuring a fittingly sinister visual element.
Stoking speculation about Gaga’s role, she and Wednesday’s creative genius Tim Burton were spotted filming sequences at Mexico‘s infamous Island of the Dolls – a spine-chilling location filled with dismembered dolls and ghostly legends. Burton raved about Gaga, “She’s such an artist… working with her is endlessly inspiring.”
