Taylor Swift once shared sweet love advice to pal Selena Gomez — and now the friends are both in their engagement eras.
In resurfaced tweets from 2009, Gomez, now 33, posted that she had a sweet conversation with some children about what love means and it made her feel a certain way.
“Discussing love with two 9 yr olds. That’s what love supposed to be,” Gomez tweeted at the time. “Truly amazing, I’m never leaving Canada.”
Swift, now 35, replied to the actress with some words of wisdom.
“Real love still happens sometimes,” the pop star responded. “It’s not just something we make up when we’re nine. I have to believe that. You do too.”
At the time, the twosome formed a friendship as they both dated members of the Jonas Brothers. Gomez was in an on and off relationship with Nick Jonas from 2008 to 2010, while Swift dated Joe Jonas in 2008.
“We actually dated the Jonas Brothers together! It was hysterical,” Gomez recalled during a 2017 radio interview. “It was amazing, because [Taylor] was the girl with the big curly hair and all the bracelets and the cowboy boots. And I was definitely up-and-coming, and we just clicked.”

While their love stories with the boybanders didn’t last, Swift and Gomez have remained close to this day.
“My only friend in the industry really is Taylor, so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong. I felt the presence of everyone around me living full lives,” Gomez told Rolling Stone in 2022. “I had this position, and I was really happy, but … was I? Do these materialistic things make me happy? I just didn’t like who I was, because I didn’t know who I was.”
Fast forward nearly two decades, and both women are currently engaged. Gomez was the first to get engaged when Benny Blanco proposed in December 2024.
“Forever begins now,” Gomez wrote via Instagram at the time alongside a snap of her engagement ring.
Blanco, 37, also celebrated the moment, writing in the comments section, “Hey wait … that’s my wife.” Swift sent her congratulations to the happy couple at the time and volunteered to take on an iconic role in the couple’s nuptials.

Eight months later, Swift announced that she and boyfriend Travis Kelce are engaged after two years of dating.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the couple shared in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26. Gomez showed her support by “liking” the post.
The couple’s announcement included photos from the garden proposal. The first photo featured the football player, 35, down on one knee. The second snap showed Kelce and Swift gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes.
