Two of the past year’s most acclaimed TV performances are going head-to-head in the Emmy race for best lead actor in a limited series — and if the two characters were in a fistfight, we don’t know who we’d pick to win.
Colin Farrell earned raves, along with his first career Emmy nod, for playing Gotham gangster Oz Cobb on HBO’s The Penguin. He’s getting some strong competition, though, from fellow first-time nominee Stephen Graham, who’s in the mix for playing conflicted dad Eddie in the haunting Netflix drama Adolescence. Jake Gyllenhaal may have an Oscar nomination to his credit, but he’s an Emmy rookie this year, snagging his first career nod for playing accused attorney Rusty Sabich on Apple TV+’s Presumed Innocent.

Cooper Koch is also a newcomer to the Emmy scene, nominated for playing Erik Menendez in Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. That actually makes Brian Tyree Henry the veteran of this group, earning his third career Emmy nomination for playing criminal Ray Driscoll in the Apple TV+ crime drama Dope Thief. (He was previously nominated for Atlanta and This Is Us.)
Which actor would you applaud for the most, though, if their name was called on Sept. 14 at 8/7c on CBS? Vote for your favorite in the poll below, then hit the comments to defend your pick.
