Coming up is a perfect weekend to bring home local art, bargain books and baked goods, savor a pancake breakfast, enjoy two different concerts and even dance in the streets. It’s Labor Day weekend Yachats (and Waldport) style, and it’s packed with activities from Saturday through Monday.

Saturday and Sunday

The Yachats Arts Guild’s Labor Day show “Second Summer” is the theme, in the Commons multipurpose room. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, coastal artists display and sell their creations in oil, acrylic and watercolor, along with jewelry and photography. Free admission.

Quinton Smith / Lincoln Chronicle The Yachats Ladies Club uses proceeds from its weekend craft sales for college scholarships and support to other community organizations.

Yachats Ladies Club Labor Day bazaar: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the organization’s clubhouse, 286 W. Third St. Club members will offer mini-pies and other baked goods, plus handcrafted scarves, sweaters, pet items, aprons, soaps and more. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1, benefiting the club’s scholarship fund and local service organizations. The prize is a handmade quilt, with a drawing at the club’s December holiday bazaar.

The Waldport Moose Lodge is staging its second street dance and vendor fair of the summer from noon to 6 p.m. at 250 N.W. John St. in downtown Waldport. Dance to live music featuring the Sons of Aloha. Burgers and hot dogs will be available, plus vendors selling a variety of merchandise. The event is sponsored by Moose Lodge, the city of Waldport and the Waldport Chamber of Commerce.

Sunday

Quinton Smith / Lincoln Chronicle Michelle Hogan and Shari Kiser will be helping again Sunday during the Yachats Lion’s Club breakfast.

Yachats Lions Club Labor Day pancake breakfast: 7:30 to 11 a.m. at Lions Hall, 344 W. Fourth St. A fundraising tradition for the service group, this all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, ham, milk, orange juice and coffee. Suggested donation is $10. Club volunteers will be serving up the ample fare, aided by students from nearby Angell Job Corps. Proceeds will benefit the Lions Club’s two yearly $2,500 scholarships for Waldport High School.

The Friends of Yachats Library book sale: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the basement of the Yachats Commons. The group’s final sale of 2025 features a new “Wall of History” books. Over 300 titles span U.S. history from the Civil War to World War II through current events, including illustrated histories and some oversized works. All are priced at $2. Also for sale will be thousands of non-fiction and fiction works at $2 each, plus graphic novels from D.C. Comics and Marvel, vintage sci-fi and fantasy paperbacks (most $2, with a few volume sets for $10), puzzles ($5) and children’s books ($1). The sale also features three shelves of books by popular authors like Stuart Woods, James Patterson, Michael Connelly and Anne Perry.

Yachats Farmers Market: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. along West Fourth St. on south edge of Yachats Commons. The weekly, open-air market features local produce, herbs and jams, plus handcrafted pottery, jewelry and clothing. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome.

Monday

The 40-member Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will perform its free Labor Day concert at 2 p.m. Monday in the Yachats Commons.

Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble’s free Labor Day concert: 2 p.m., Yachats Commons. The 40-member volunteer group will offer familiar works from Broadway musicals to movies and TV. All pieces are “intended to raise spirits on the last holiday of summer,” according to a news release. The ensemble is led by Ernest Hills, former professor of music at California State University, Sacramento. Weekly rehearsals are open to all wind and percussion players. For details, visit the group’s website or contact Eric Bigler at 541-270-9409.

Polly Plumb Productions is sponsoring a Labor Day concert at 7 p.m. at the Yachats Community Presbyterian Church. The “Desert Hollow” indie folk duo will perform what’s been called “a refreshing blend of old timey folk, blood harmonies, and knee-slapping hoedowns.” Xander Hitzig and Nicole Olney have been featured on NPR Music’s “Live Sessions” and are planning to release their first full-length CD this fall.
