Beyond the Gates is taking another week off from airing new episodes, a move that follows CBS’s decision to air reruns of the soap following the Fourth of July holiday.
As Parade reported, the week of Sept. 1 will re-air the episodes surrounding Ted (then Maurice Johson) and Nicole’s (Daphnée Duplaix) anniversary party. The episodes featured the big reveal about Eva (Ambyr Michelle) and Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant).
The repeat week has fans up in arms and questioning why Beyond the Gates is the only CBS soap pulling such a stunt, especially as it’s only in the first season. Meanwhile, both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful are moving forward with new episodes.
Beyond the Gates creator Michele Val Jean revealed during the previous holiday week that the decision was above her pay grade. This time around, she has not addressed it other than to let one X user know the show has not been canceled.
While CBS has kept quiet on the decision, some fans believe it has to do with the number of episodes ordered for Beyond the Gates Season 1.
The Gatekeepers Podcast shared an explanation on X, noting that the first season got a lower episode count than most soaps, which is the norm.
“Only 200 episodes were ordered for #BeyondTheGates’ first season, while other soaps air about 240 eps/year. This is typical for a first season! But, make sure you support so we get that FULL season 2 order,” read the caption, answering another tweet wondering why we’re being shown reruns again.
Another post shared a video echoing that theory, stating that it was based on the 200-episode count. The video details that cast members have shared on social media that filming the 200th episode coincided with Christmas.
In the footage, the user explains the math, starting with when the show debuted last February, adding in sports-related preemptions last spring, the two weeks of repeats, and upcoming Thanksgiving preemptions.
These are just fan theories, but they do make sense and give a reasonable explanation for the repeats. When the show was renewed last May, a full season order was issued for Season 2 of Beyond the Gates.
That means we will have an idea if these fan theories pan out if the next season features weeks of repeats. Season 2 should kick off right after the Christmas holiday.
