When fans learned that Sheinelle Jones would be taking time off from being a co-host back in 2024, they were concerned something was going on with her or someone in her family. While she explained she was absent for a family health matter back in January, viewers were devastated four months later amid the loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh, from brain cancer at age 45.
As Sheinelle’s TV family and viewers rallied around her, the news anchor is ready to come back to daytime television. How long has Sheinelle Jones been on the Today show?
Per a report from Variety, Sheinelle first appeared on the Today show back in October 2014. Meaning: Sheinelle Jones has been on the Today show for almost 11 years.
As far as how Sheinelle got started on the Today show, the outlet notes she originally came to the program to be a co-host on Weekend Today. After four years in that role, NBC brought her to the weekday edition of Today to help report on current events during the 9 a.m. third hour broadcast. She was also joined by Dylan Dreyer (who also was originally a Weekend Today host), Craig Melvin and Al Roker, making up a quartet that still appears on the show to this day.
Even though Sheinelle chose to step away from Today to take care of her late husband and children, it’s clear her TV family was with her every step of the way. As Dylan shared to E! News back in May 2025, everyone from Today has made sure to be there for Sheinelle in one form or another.
“[Sheinelle’s] doing all right,” Dylan shared at the time. “She’s hanging in there. We’re praying for her and her family. You know, she’s just going through a tough time with her family… “We talk to her every day. One of us on the team talks to her every single day, and we’re there to support her, and we’ll welcome her back with open arms the second she can get back to us.”
