Coming of age in the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” era of the Marines is the basis for Boots, Netflix’s upcoming dramedy that just dropped its teaser trailer
Created by Andy Parker and starring Miles Heizer and Liam Oh, Boots follows a gay young man who, with his friend, joins the Marines in the ’90s, when being gay had to remain a secret.
According to the official description:
BOOTS is a one-hour comedic drama that delivers an irreverent, off-beat take on the coming-of-age story. Set in the tough, unpredictable world of the 1990s US Marine Corps—when being gay in the military was still illegal—the series follows directionless, closeted Cameron Cope (Heizer) and his best friend Ray McAffey (Oh), the son of a decorated Marine, as they join a diverse group of recruits. Together, this ensemble navigates the literal and metaphorical landmines of boot camp, forging unlikely bonds and discovering their true selves in an environment designed to push them to their limits. With sharp wit and plenty of heart, BOOTS is about friendship, resilience, and finding your place in the world—even when that world seems determined to keep you in line or leave you behind.

The series also stars Max Parker, Vera Farmiga, Cedrick Cooper, Ana Ayora, Angus O’Brien, Dominic Goodman, Kieron Moore, Nicholas Logan, Rico Paris and Blake Burt.
Supporting cast includes Brandon Tyler Moore, Zach Roerig, Anthony Marble, Joy Osmanski, Ivan Hoey Jr., Logan Gould, Jack Kay, Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson, Jonathan Nieves and Brett Dalton.
The series is inspired by Greg Cope White’s memoir The Pink Marine. Parker serves as co-showrunner with Jennifer Cecil. Norman Lear, who died in 2023, is listed as an executive producer. Other executive producers include ACT III Productions’ Brent Miller as well as Rachel Davidson, Scott Hornbacher and Peter Hoar. Sony Pictures Television produces for Netflix.
