Hilary Duff’s days of making music are no longer “so yesterday.”
On Tuesday, it was announced that the Disney Channel alum had signed with Atlantic Records, per Variety. Not only that, but she will be releasing a docuseries that chronicles her journey back to music and explores her personal life.
According to a press release, the docuseries will show “the ups, downs and everything in between,” and promises that “fans will ride shotgun as she balances raising a family, recording new music, live show rehearsals, and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade.”
It will be directed and executive-produced by Sam Wrench, who worked on “A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter” and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.”
Duff’s fifth and last studio album was “Breathe In. Breathe Out,” which was released in June 2015. In 2020, she briefly came out of retirement to release an EDM cover of Third Eye Blind’s hit “Never Let You Go” with her husband Matthew Koma, the lead singer of Winnetka Bowling League. But as for releasing original music, Duff had seemingly put the pen down.
However, she kept busy with her acting career, appearing in the comedy series “Younger” from 2015 to 2021 as well as Hulu’s “How I Met Your Father” from 2022 to 2023, which she served as a producer on.
She also shifted her focus to motherhood after marrying Koma in 2019. They share three daughters together: Banks, 6, Mae, 4, and Townes, 16 months. Duff also has one son, Luca, 13, from her marriage to Mike Comrie.
It’s unclear when the “Come Clean” singer will be putting out this highly anticipated new music, but she shared photos in the studio with Koma on Tuesday. “New music … or something,” she wrote in the caption.
This will be Duff’s first time working with Atlantic Records.
Her past records were produced through Buena Vista Records (Disney Music Group), Hollywood Records, and RCA Records. Duff first rose to fame as the titular character on Disney Channel’s coming-of-age comedy “Lizzie McGuire,” which premiered in 2001. She began making music the following year. Some of her biggest hits include “So Yesterday,” “Why Not,” “This Is What Dreams Are Made of,” “Come Clean,” “Wake Up,” “With Love,” and “Sparks.”
