Whoopi Goldberg isn’t planning on leaving The View anytime soon.
In a new interview, the longtime co-host of the daytime talk show made it clear she has no intentions of retiring — and her reasoning was refreshingly candid.
“I’ve gotta keep paying those bills, baby!” Goldberg, 69, told Entertainment Tonight on September 9.
When asked if she’s considered “slowing down,” Goldberg admitted she has, but quickly added, “Who can afford to do that?”
“If you don’t marry well, you’ve got to keep working,” the EGOT winner quipped.
When the interviewer pointed out that her decades-long career and accolades might suggest she’s set for retirement, Goldberg pushed back: “No, not by now. Not yet.”

Goldberg joined The View in 2007, replacing Rosie O’Donnell as co-host and moderator. The daytime staple is now in its 29th season, which premiered on Monday, September 8.
Goldberg has been married and divorced three times – first to Alvin Martin, with whom she shares her daughter Alexandrea, 52, then to cinematographer David Claessen, and later to Lyle Trachtenberg.
Goldberg discussed the topic of marriage last May in an episode of Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? She told former celebrity.land anchor Chris Wallace that she no longer has energy for that type of committed relationship.
“You know, when you’re married to somebody, you have to be invested in how they’re feeling,” the Sister Act star said, per People.
“I am not,” she continued. “I’m invested in my kid. I’m invested in her kids. I’m invested in my son in law. I’m invested in my friends. But I’m not invested in a relationship that would require as much as having a child requires and I know that that’s not for me.”
