Bob Bovee will perform at the Historic Ellisville Opera House on Sept. 20.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. according to a community announcement.

Bovee, a Nebraska native, is known for his old-time music, which he learned from his family. He plays several instruments, including the banjo, guitar, harmonica and autoharp. His performances include a mix of dance tunes, ballads, cowboy songs, blues and rags, according to the announcement.

In addition to his music, Bovee is recognized for his stage humor and storytelling. He has contributed articles to publications such as The Old-Time Herald and Inside Bluegrass. He also has taught a course on the history of country music at the University of Minnesota.

Since 1971, Bovee has traveled across the country, bringing old-time music to various audiences at festivals, fairs, concerts and other events. His music reflects the rural traditions of earlier entertainments, including minstrel shows and country radio.

The concert is part of the Hickory Ridge Concert series, hosted by singer-songwriter Chris Vallillo. Tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

Attendees are encouraged to bring seat cushions, as the venue features original bentwood hardwood chairs. A limited number of padded folding chairs will be available, thanks to a donation from a patron. An external lift is accessible at the rear of the building for those who may have difficulty navigating the staircase.

Concessions will be available before the show and during intermission, including coffee, water, pop and locally made pies provided by members and supporters of the Historic Ellisville Restoration Organization. Slices and whole pies may be available for purchase after the show.

The program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council and the Galesburg Community Foundation. Proceeds from the event will support ongoing restoration projects at the opera house, including roof replacements for the former bank and post office buildings.

Supporters can contribute to the Historic Ellisville Restoration Organization by making a gift through the Galesburg Community Foundation or mailing donations to the organization.

The Historic Ellisville Opera House is located at 102 N. Main St. in Ellisville. For more information, visit ellisvilleoperahouse.org.
