Leave it to comedian Nate Bargatze to figure out a clever — and incredibly generous — way to help keep Emmy winners’ speeches short. The first-time Emmy host told late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel he has a plan to ensure speeches don’t run long.

His plan is laced with a very clever catch that makes every winner have some skin in the game.

Each Emmy winner is allotted 45 seconds to deliver their acceptance speeches. Show producers asked Bargatze if he could find a way to help ensure nobody ran long.

His plan is to pledge a $100,000 personal donation to the Boys and Girls Club.

“That’s what the show is starting at,” Bargatze told Kimmel. “If someone goes over (their allotted 45 seconds), we take away $1,000 a second… But if you go under, we will put $1,000 back on. So you can give it back.”

‘Have you done the math?’

Kimmel asked Bargatze if he had done the math to figure out exactly what this might cost him?

“It could get wild,” he said. “Everybody’s got to give their time up. If everybody gave it away, it would be a ton of money.”

Maybe the best part is that Bargatze plans to have children from the Boys and Girls Club in the audience.

“The (winners) are going to come out and you are going to have to look them in the face,” he said.

Bargatze also cleared up that this is not sponsorship money. It’s coming out of his own pocket.

“I am putting the money up,” he said. “A, because the joke is funnier if it’s coming from me. It’s straight up, this is what they are getting. It’s up to that room how much or how little they want to give them. I’m sorry. It’s out of my hands.”
