Prince William appears to be prioritizing his family and royal duties over attempts to mend his fractured relationship with Prince Harry anytime soon.
Following the Duke of Sussex’s rare visit to the United Kingdom for a charity engagement and the third death anniversary of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, he has been busy with royal duties.
Amid his jam-packed schedule, he managed to meet his father, King Charles III, marking their first reunion in 19 months despite the ongoing rift.
The 40-year-old royal arrived at Clarence House, the King’s London residence, for a private tea with his father before heading to another engagement in the city.
While Prince Harry’s reunion with his father hints at possible reconciliation, it has sparked renewed curiosity about his relationship with Prince William.
Royal author Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight that the Prince of Wales seemed to be keeping his distance from his brother despite both of them being in the same country.
“I think it speaks volumes,” she said, noting that the brothers were in completely different engagements during his time in the UK and “there’s no opportunity for them to meet.”
According to a royal expert, an insider shared that he is putting his family and responsibilities first above reconciliation.
“I’m told by a very reliable source close to William that reconciliation is not on his agenda,” she said, adding, “That his agenda is supporting his wife, his children, stepping up as Prince and Princess of Wales, committing to his work.”
Moreover, Nicholl also pointed out that past conflicts and issues are difficult to resolve, making it unlikely that their relationship will be repaired in the near future.
“There really is too much water on the bridge, so reconciliation, as far as the brothers are concerned, I think sadly, is still someway off,” the royal author explained.
The rift between the two began when Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped back as senior royals in 2020, a decision that caused a strained relationship with his family.
At the time, the Duke of Cambridge was reportedly “blindsided by Harry and Meghan’s decision and statement,” as mentioned by Us Weekly.
In 2022, Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight that Prince Harry had planned to sort things out with his brother with the help of a mediator.
“It was something that he had suggested to his father,” the royal expert shared. “He’s made it very clear that he wants to sort things out. He wants things to be improved.”
This was prior to Prince Harry’s bombshell memoir Spare, which reveals details about his feud with his brother and other family tensions.
