Lee Pace and Jared Harris‘s critically acclaimed sci-fi drama Foundation has officially received a fourth season renewal at Apple TV+. This comes ahead of the latest installment’s season finale premiere on Friday, September 12. Since its debut last July, Season 3 has continued to receive positive reviews from critics. It currently holds a Certified Fresh score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
What did Foundation’s newest showrunners say about the renewal?
Following series creator David S. Goyer’s exit over a year ago, it has now been confirmed that Foundation Season 4 will have a new executive producer in the form of Fear the Walking Dead’s Ian Goldberg. He will be co-showrunner along with executive producer David Kob, who has been with the show since the first season. Production on Season 4 is expected to begin in early 2026.
“There is no series quite like Foundation, and we feel lucky and honored to be carrying the torch forward as co-showrunners into season four,” Goldberg and Kob said in a statement. “We look forward to continuing the epic, emotional storytelling that defined the first three seasons of the show, and to be working alongside some of the most talented, passionate creative partners in the business.”
Apple TV+ executive Matt Cherniss added, “It’s been fantastic to watch ‘Foundation’ become such a global phenomenon, with fans tuning in from every corner of the world. With each new season, the excitement around this trailblazing sci-fi epic just keeps building due to the bold storytelling and collective artistry of this extraordinarily talented cast and creative team. We’re excited to keep exploring this universe together in season four.”
The latest season also stars Lou Llobell, Cherry Jones, Brandon P. Bell, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, Alexander Siddig, Troy Kotsur, Pilou Asbæk, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann, and Rowena King. Despite leaving as the showrunner, Goyer remains as an executive producer alongside Bill Bost, Pace, Michael Satrazemis, and Robyn Asimov. It is a production by Paramount Television Studios.
