If you’ve been following along, you know I was spiraling a little over Tessa Thompson’s stylist switch. Losing Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald to Karla Welch left me nervous — her Toronto Film Festival looks didn’t exactly calm those fears either.

But then came New York. And suddenly, I exhaled.
For the Hedda screening, Tessa stepped out in a Celine Spring 2018 archive piece — Phoebe Philo-era, no less — and it felt like a return to the kind of fashion intelligence I love seeing from her. The batwing tan leather top with its bold geometric stripe didn’t just look good, it felt right. Confident, cool, and fashion-smart.

Paired with those pieced-together style jeans that give off a homemade-but-chic vibe, the whole thing read very downtown New York — laidback but still razor sharp.
This was the proof I needed in Toronto that Tessa’s style isn’t going to lose its edge — maybe it’ll just take a different shape. I’m still keeping my eyes on her (as I always do).
