Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle is making history at the global box office in its opening run. The anime feature scored a record-setting domestic debut and drew a massive overseas turnout. It has already passed key milestones to become Sony’s biggest release of 2025 so far. With international momentum building and premium formats boosting returns, the focus now shifts to how high the film can rise in the weeks ahead.

Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle opens big at the box office

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle opened to $70 million in North America, marking the biggest debut ever for an anime film and Crunchyroll release. The film ranked sixth among all-time September openings, with Friday generating $33 million, Saturday $21.6 million, and Sunday $15.4 million across 3,315 theaters. According to EntTelligence, 4.5 million people attended with average ticket prices of $14.56 for general and $17.91 for premium formats (via Deadline).

Men made up 57% of the audience, with 37% identifying as Hispanic or Latino. Subtitled screenings drew 55% of viewers. On Saturday, 53% attended evening showings after 5 p.m. Regal Irvine Spectrum in California led all theaters with $167,000.

PostTrak reported 67% of tickets were bought in advance, and audiences gave the film a 98% rating. CinemaScore awarded an “A,” the highest grade ever for a Demon Slayer release.

International grosses reached $282.9 million, bringing the worldwide total to $352.9 million (via Box Office Mojo). Sony released the film under its Crunchyroll label for the first time since acquiring it. The studio earned a 20% distribution fee. Premium formats, including IMAX, made up 44% of the opening weekend box office.

Sony reportedly spent $10–12 million on marketing, using digital platforms, a 24-hour watch party, trailer drops at major expos, sports tie-ins, and theater collectibles.

The top five domestic box office results for the weekend were: Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle ($70 million), The Conjuring: Last Rites ($26.1 million), Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale ($18.1 million), The Long Walk ($11.5 million), and Disney’s Toy Story re-release ($3.5 million). Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale opened to $18.1 million domestically on a $50 million budget. The Conjuring: Last Rites has earned $332.9 million worldwide.
