While presenting at Sunday’s Emmy Awards, Tina Fey managed to slip in a crack about Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s beef, much to the delight of those in attendance.
Fey made the joke while presenting the award for Outstanding Live Variety special, for which Kendrick’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance was nominated.
“If Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime special wins I’m really going to hear it from Drake,” Fey quipped. “And Drake and I are supposed to play pickleball tomorrow,” she added. “So … anyway.”
The unexpected joke was a smash with the audience, and came before Kendrick ultimately lost the award to ‘Saturday Night Live,’ which won for its 50th Anniversary Special. SNL also beat out Beyoncé, who was nominated for the Beyoncé Bowl.
Elsewhere in the evening, Tramell Tillman became the first Black Man to win outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, an award he took home for his performance in Severance.
“You remember what you want to remember,” he said in his acceptance speech, per USA Today. “You make time for what you want to make time for. Do the work. Show up. And most importantly, for the love of God, don’t embarrass me in public. My first acting coach was tough, y’all. But all great mothers are.”
