The Tesla registered to D4vd currently being investigated by L.A. Police

A house in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles was reportedly searched on Wednesday night as part of an investigation into the human remains of a teenage girl that were found on Sept. 8 in the trunk of an impounded Tesla, which is registered to popular singer D4vd.

Law enforcement sources told KABC that D4vd had been staying at the home that was searched, while TMZ reported that LAPD homicide detectives walked out of the house with a computer and several evidence bags.

The 15-year-old girl, Celeste Rivas, was identified through forensics on Wednesday, law enforcement told NBC Los Angeles. The cause of death is still unknown, and the Los Angeles County medical examiner is working to determine how Rivas died.

The Tesla was impounded at the beginning of September at a tow yard in Hollywood after it was reported abandoned and had not been reported stolen. Employees at the impound lot had reported a foul odor coming from the car and contacted authorities. Police said officers found human remains inside a bag in the front trunk of the Tesla on Sept. 8.

After the medical examiner released the identity of the body, TMZ reported that D4vd’s scheduled Wednesday concert at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, part of his Withered World Tour, was canceled, citing sources with direct knowledge of the show. As of Thursday afternoon, D4vd was still listed to perform at The Warfield in San Francisco on Friday, Sept. 19.

TMZ also reported that the outlet had spoken with the girl’s mother, who said her daughter had been missing since April 2024. The mother told TMZ that she was suspicious of the news that the Tesla was registered under the musician’s real name, David Anthony Burke, because she said Celeste had a boyfriend named David.

The singer is cooperating with authorities in their investigation, a representative for the artist previously said. Police have not said whether they have a suspect in the investigation.

The platinum-selling artist has been on tour for the past few weeks. The same day the initial news broke about the incident, the musician still went on to perform in Minneapolis that night, TMZ reported, even giving away popular Labubu toys to the crowd.

Shortly before 12:30 p.m. PT on Sept. 8, LAPD officers responded to Hollywood Tow on North Mansfield Avenue after someone reported smelling a strong odor coming from a vehicle at the impound lot.

A dismembered body was found inside a plastic bag located in the front trunk of a 2023 Tesla registered in Hempstead, Texas, to singer D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

The Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office said the corpse was of a woman about 5 feet 2 inches tall with black wavy hair and a distinct “Shhhh” tattoo on her finger. She was wearing a tube top, black leggings, a yellow metal bracelet and metal stud earrings.

The Tesla bearing Texas license plates was towed after it was found abandoned five days prior at Bluebird Avenue and Doheny Drive in the Hollywood Hills area, according to police. The impounded Tesla had been at the tow yard for two days before the foul smell was reported, police said.

The 20-year-old singer-songwriter, known for his indie, R&B and alt-pop sound, rose to fame after he went viral on TikTok and has more than 33 million monthly listeners on Spotify. D4vd is known for hits like “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me,” both of which have over a billion streams on Spotify. He is set to conclude his world tour in North America at the end of September, in Los Angeles. The artist himself has not made any public statements regarding the case.

Meanwhile, one day after human remains were found in the Tesla, a second body was found in a separate tow yard in South Los Angeles. Family members had filed a missing persons report and reportedly tracked the woman to a scorched Honda Civic at an impound lot on West Gage Avenue. When the family members wanted to look at the car, the tow yard operator called the LAPD. Investigators arrived at the scene and found the woman’s partially burned body in the trunk, police said.

Investigators have said they don’t believe the Tesla case in Hollywood Hills is related to the Honda Civic case in South Los Angeles.
