If you ever wanted to see Pose star Dominique Jackson pluck out someone’s eye with a corkscrew-adorned boot, Queens of the Dead has you covered.

Director Tina Romero, the daughter of the father of zombie movies, George Romero, delivers a campy horror-comedy about what happens when an undead outbreak occurs at a drag club party in Brooklyn, as seen in Entertainment Weekly’s exclusive trailer reveal.

Aside from Jackson, the cast is a who’s who of LGBTQ+ talent, from RuPaul’s Drag Race standout Nina West to stand-up comic Margaret Cho to Mission: Impossible and The Running Man star Katy O’Brian to Fire Island and Mean Girls (the musical) talent Tomas Matos and Jaquel Spivey.

“Being part of this movie has been incredible,” West tells EW in a statement. “From the first day on set, I got to experience something so magical and so queer and so camp — I really can’t believe that I get to be part of it. Nearly every single person on set was queer and telling this story from a very unique perspective that I think will take audiences on such a wild ride. And Tina is delivering something that is so unique and new and fresh and fabulous, but also so familiar. Her father would be so proud of her. She is taking this massive legacy and carrying that torch into completely new places. I can’t wait for audiences to see this.”

O’Brian plays Dre, a party promoter anxiously trying to organize a warehouse party in the New York City borough, but it’s not going as planned. Making matters worse, there’s a zombie apocalypse happening that sends the entire metropolis into lockdown mode, leaving everyone at the venue to hunker down inside or face the onslaught of flesh-eating monsters.

Jack Haven (I Saw the TV Glow), Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), and Riki Lindhome (Wednesday) also feature in the cast.

“As far as the queer element, on one hand, I just feel like the gays need a zombie film,” Romero previously told EW in an interview. “It’s time that we get to have a big gay zombie movie.”

On a more serious note, “The zombie apocalypse is such a rich sandbox to play in when it comes to social commentary. I can’t be my dad’s daughter without making an attempt at saying something with zombies,” she explained. “I did want this to be a film in which I am paying homage to the world and the monster he created, but I’m also introducing my own voice. It’s very much not a film he would make, but it is using his vocabulary and is playing by his rules.”

Queens of the Dead premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York, but it will now open in movie theaters on Oct. 24. Watch the trailer above.
