Jimmy Kimmel may have won over some of his detractors after footage emerged showing him defending Ivanka Trump from inappropriate advances made by Andy Dick during a live television appearance.
The clip, which surfaced on Reddit, harks back to a 2007 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! In the footage, Jimmy can be observed physically removing the Get Smart actor from his position after he continuously made unwanted contact with the businesswoman. During the segment, Andy persistently caressed Ivanka’s leg, prompting Jimmy to repeatedly step in throughout the interview to halt the comedian’s harassment.
Less than a minute afterward, Andy disregarded Jimmy’s attempts to redirect him, trying once more to touch the now First Daughter.
An exasperated Jimmy then rose from his seat and approached Andy, gesturing for security to join him.
Jimmy and security personnel then physically hoisted Andy from the sofa and escorted him from the set before he offered an apology to Ivanka, who nervously laughed at the uncomfortable situation.
Ivanka appeared as the second guest on Jimmy’s program at that time, as both she and Andy were scheduled to appear. Jimmy revealed to Extra at the time that when Andy greeted Ivanka, he immediately requested a “big, wet kiss.”
Following that incident, Andy started running his hands along Ivanka’s thigh and knee, which she attempted to prevent as diplomatically as possible.
Reddit users were horrified by Andy’s behavior, but couldn’t resist praising Jimmy for taking action during the live broadcast.
“This is a great story, but I think we’re missing the point that Kimmel here tried to protect Trump’s daughter, threw her sexual harasser off the show, apologized to her, and 20 years later, Trump had him fired,” one Reddit user commented.
“How ironic that Trump hates Kimmel for going after him, yet he once kept Ivanka from getting harassed,” another added.
“It’s almost like Kimmel is a decent person or something!” a third chimed in. “Seriously, though, I hadn’t seen this. So many in his position would have yukked it up, made light of it, or awkwardly fumbled with it. Kimmel handled it decisively and matter-of-factly while still trying to entertain. Kudos.”
Another reaction was: “And having him on a live show is just asking for trouble.”
A year after his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! along with Ivanka, Andy was arrested for allegedly fondling the breasts of a 17 year old girl after he pulled her bra down and exposed her breasts, according to the Daily Mail.
Since Jimmy’s show was abruptly suspended last week, it was announced Monday that his program would be returning, for what he said about Charlie Kirk’s death, he’s been consistently in the news.
Jimmy saying, “the MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” during his monologue on last Monday’s episode, is what got him in trouble.
