The Epstein scandal continues to embarrass the British royal family, even years after Jeffrey Epstein’s death. The convicted sex offender’s ties to Prince Andrew, and the way the prince failed to distance himself from Epstein, were, in many ways, the biggest reason why Prince Andrew is no longer a working royal. And now, the Epstein shadow is coming for Sarah Ferguson after a recent email leak has made clear she also had close ties to Epstein in private, even as she pretended to rebuke him in public.
Virginia Giuffre’s sister-in-law is calling for the Duchess of York to be stripped of her royal title after it has surfaced that she called Epstein a “supreme friend” in a recently leaked 2011 email. Amanda Roberts told BBC Newsnight: “If you are not safeguarding the most vulnerable people in your community, why should you hold those positions of power?”

The emails published on the Mail on Sunday reveal Ferguson apologized to Epstein mere weeks after publicly disowning him in 2011. A spokesperson for Ferguson said about the subject, “This email was sent in the context of advice the duchess was given to try to assuage Epstein and his threats.” Epstein threatened to sue after the Duchess of York publicly condemned him.
Ironically, these emails were leaked just a few days after both Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew were photographed with members of the royal family at the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, which puts the royal family in a very awkward position.
Reportedly, “William feels even more strongly than The King that Andrew and Fergie are an embarrassment and will be urging his father to act,” a source told the Daily Mail. “The optics of that pair of chancers guffawing away [at events] look terrible.”
However, King Charles isn’t ready to cut his brother off. “The King doesn’t want to cut ties with his brother, former sister-in-law and that side of the family,” the insider continued. “The late Queen, conscious that Fergie was the mother of her granddaughters, always took that view, even if Prince Philip couldn’t bear to be in the same room as Sarah.”
The leaked email scandal has already caused seven charities to remove Sarah Ferguson as patron or ambassador, according to the BBC. Those charities are Prevent Breast Cancer, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Children’s Hospice Julia’s House, the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, the Children’s Literacy Charity, and the British Heart Foundation. Julia’s House said, considering the circumstances, it was “inappropriate” for Ferguson to continue in the role.
And now, with the pressure coming from Virginia Giuffre’s family, it might all be too much for the British royal family to continue supporting the Duke and Duchess of York, who have never been too popular in the first place. They made their bed by getting involved with someone like Jeffrey Epstein, and if all they end up losing is their privileges, overall, that’s not even such a high price to pay considering what Epstein’s victims have had to suffer.
