It’s safe to say that Billy Bob Thornton and Mark Collie struck (music) gold while working on Landman.

The prolific actors and musicians — who star as M*Tex president Tommy Norris and local Sheriff Walt Joeberg, respectively — co-wrote and produced several songs together while filming the last two seasons of Taylor Sheridan’s record-breaking West Texas oil drama. And now, Entertainment Weekly can exclusively reveal that fans will soon get the chance to hear all their hard work on the forthcoming Landman soundtrack, which hits shelves on Friday.

Landman – Songs From and Inspired by the Paramount+ Original Series (Volume I) features an eclectic mix of rock, Americana, and country artists that have all come together to perform songs that perfectly capture the show’s signature heart and grit.

Thornton and Collie contributed to five of the album’s 15 tracks. They are listed as co-writers on “Livin’ It Up In Texas” alongside singer Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top fame, as well as “She’ll Dance For Whiskey” with Texas singer-songwriter Parker McCollum.

The duo are also credited as both writers and composers along with country legend Dwight Yoakam on the hit, “That’s What Lonely People Do.” They earned the same credits alongside Ronnie Dunn, who is one half of the iconic country outfit Brooks & Dunn, on the song “Blood for Black Gold,” which notably features Thornton on drums.

Finally, Thornton and Collie are the only songwriters listed on the track “Midland After Midnight,” which is performed on the record by the Lubbock, Tex., band Flatland Cavalry. The other 10 tracks feature performances by a collection of popular artists including Ella Langley, Chris Stapleton, Drayton Farley, George Strait, The Red Clay Strays, and more.

Landman co-creator Christian Wallace previously told Entertainment Weekly that Collie and Thornton began working on music together while they were shooting the show’s very first season last year.

“[Thornton] was writing throughout the show and he had all these fantastic collaborators, from Billy Gibbons to ZZ Top and Tanya Tucker,” Wallace said in Sept. 2024. “That was a really fun part of the show with Billy pulling out a guitar and singing a song he had written about the show, or was inspired by the show.”

Thornton added at the time, “We wrote a couple of songs [that] were kind of inspired by the area, that business world. We’ll see if they end up on anything. And maybe they will, maybe they won’t, but they’re at least there.” And now, they’re here!
