When showrunner Francesca Gardiner’s update about an 8-hour first season hit the internet, there were two groups of people: excited Potterheads and, well, unimpressed naysayers. Honestly, I am already loving what’s unfolding in the wizarding world. With reboot doing everything to the tee with books, it is opening doors we didn’t even visit in films. Lack of time in movies missed the opportunity to delve deeper into the books and skipped past some characters and significant moments. The series is weeding out this glaring shortcoming. It will give viewers a lot of time to develop familiarity with new characters who have an uncharted dynamic, different from what is already imprinted in our minds with the older cast, and more importantly, allow time to adjust to the new Golden Trio.

However, for some fans, it’s not quite Christmas yet—it’s becoming a matter of debate. The update added discomfort for those already skeptical of a decade-long Harry Potter reboot. While later books have much to unpack, many question the need for eight hours just for the first book, which is relatively short. They fear the first season might be bloated with unnecessary content.
The disappointment is noticeable and agreeable, but as a general rule, let’s reserve judgment until we have seen the first season.
