More than 1,200 locations in all 50 US states, Canada and 15 other countries will participate in the 10th annual Kids Music Day. Events will take place from Sept. 19 to Oct. 12, according to a community announcement.
Families can find local activities by entering their zip or postal code on the Kids Music Day website. International participants can locate events by selecting their country’s flag on the site.
Special events will include musical instrument petting zoos, student performances, free trial music lessons, kids open mics and instrument donation drives.
Kids Music Day is supported by a long list of brands, including Wyndham Hotels, Royal Farms, Independence Blue Cross, CASIO, Kala Brand Music, Les Paul Foundation, Music Nomad Equipment Care, Panyard, Remo Percussion and Taylor Guitars. These partners are helping to support more children in starting their musical journeys, according to the announcement.
In addition, more than a dozen celebrity artists have lent their names as Kids Music Day ambassadors. Notable figures include Julie Andrews, Jack Black, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Michael Feinstein, Kenny Loggins, Richie Sambora, Sarah McLachlan, Vanessa Williams, Victor Wooten, Todd Rundgren, Neil Nayyar, Philip Lawrence, Bernie Williams, Damien Escobar and Mandy Harvey.
In addition to the main events, Keep Music Alive is launching the “Drum On Anything” Challenge to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025. The challenge encourages musicians and fans to share a short video clip of themselves “drumming on anything WITH anything”. Those hesitant to participate in the video challenge are encouraged to make a donation to Keep Music Alive.
As was done for the ALS “Ice Bucket Challenge”, Keep Music Alive supporters are asked to challenge and tag 3 friends to participate in the “Drum On Anything” Challenge. Keep Music Alive also encourages other music education non-profits to utilize the “Drum on Anything” Challenge to raise funds for their programs.
