Singer and actress Katharine McPhee and her Grammy-award-winning producer husband David Foster will appear Jan. 31 at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, the theater announced Thursday.
McPhee, who rose to fame with her 2006 “American Idol” performance, will appear with Foster, whom she wed in 2019, as part of their “An Intimate Evening with David Foster and Katharine McPhee” tour, which recently added 19 new dates, the theater reported.
In addition to her singing career, McPhee is well-known to television audiences for starring as Paige Dineen on the CBS spy drama “Scorpion” (2014-2018), and as one of the leads in the NBC musical drama “Smash” (2012-2013), executive produced by Steven Spielberg. She also starred in the Netflix comedy series, “Country Comfort” (2021) as well as guest starring in several TV series, including “CSI: NY,” “Community,” “Family Guy” and “Ugly Betty. “
McPhee made her Broadway debut in 2018 as Jenna in the hit musical “Waitress,” featuring music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. She then originated the leading role in the West End production and then returned to Broadway to perform in the show’s final weeks, according to the release.
Foster is among the successful contemporary composers today, who played a key role in the discovery and career launches of Celine Dion, Josh Groban and Michael Bublé, according to a release from the Palace.
In addition to his 16 Grammies, he’s won an Emmy, Golden Globe and three Oscar nominations for Best Original Song. Foster has created hit songs for a diverse array of artists including Barbra Streisand, Dion, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Andrea Bocelli, Bublé, Groban, Chicago, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, Tony Braxton, Natalie Cole, Michael Bolton, Seal, Chaka Khan, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Hall and Oates, Brandy, ‘N Sync, Boz Scaggs and Gloria Estefan.
Some of the songs Foster and McPhee will perform together include Dion’s “The Power Of Love;” Earth Wind and Fire’s “After The Love Is Gone,” Chicago’s “You’re The Inspiration,” Groban’s “You Raise Me Up,” and many, many more.
