Jennifer Lopez is opening up about how she “barely” managed to deal with her 2024 split from Ben Affleck after their whirlwind second-chance romance.
“It was a really tough time,” the actress — who was making her new musical movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman, at the time — told CBS Sunday Morning in an interview that aired on Sunday, September 28.
“Every moment on set, I was so happy and then back home it was not great. And it was just like, ‘How do I reconcile this?’ But you get through it,” Lopez explained.
“And you know, honestly, I have to say, it was the best thing that ever happened to me, because it helped me grow in a way I needed to grow, become more self aware,” the 56-year-old continued. “I’m a different person than I was last year, I think.”
On The JLO
After dating from 2002 to 2004, Lopez and Affleck, 53, got back together in 2021 and he became her fourth husband in 2022. She released an album, a musical film, This Is Me… Now: A Love Story and a documentary celebrating the rekindled romance two months before they separated in April, 2024.
Now, the “Let’s Get Loud” singer told CBS Sunday Morning, she’s learned to stop putting “pressure” on herself to expect everything in life to work out the way she wants it to.
“I realize that the joy is in living and really embracing life and everything that it brings to you,” she said. “The hard times are the lessons. You have to understand that and once you do, everything just becomes a little bit lighter and you can really really fly.”
