Prince William and Prince Harry may be locked in a bitter feud today, but they’ve always shared common ground on one particular matter, according to a former royal chef.
The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex enjoy diverse culinary experiences, ranging from sophisticated gourmet cuisine to the comfort foods many of us cherish.
However, during their childhood years, they would indulge at a specific fast-food chain as a special treat from their mother, the late Princess Diana. And there’s a heartwarming story behind this tradition.
Former royal chef Darren McGrady, who served the royal household for 15 years, shared insights about the brothers’ fondness for McDonald’s – not merely for the cuisine, but particularly for the toys that came with their Happy Meals.
In an interview with Heart Bingo, Mr McGrady disclosed, “I previously worked with William and Harry. They came home on weekends from Ludgrove, and I prepared meals.
“It changed from Princess Diana’s healthy eating – stuffed peppers, aubergine, vegetarian dishes – to nursery food.
“Wills and Harry loved cottage pie, pizza, chicken nuggets, French fries, potato wedges, and macaroni cheese.”
He continued, “One lunchtime, I was getting lunch ready and [Diana] came in and said, ‘Cancel lunch today. I’m taking them out.’ I asked, ‘Where are you going?’ and she said, ‘McDonald’s.’

“I said, ‘I can do burgers better than McDonald’s,’ and she said, ‘I know that Darren, but they want the toys in the Happy Meal.'”
The ex-royal chef spilled the beans that Princes William and Harry occasionally indulged in fast food, “just like normal families with children,” reports the Express.
He added, “Bill Wyman had a restaurant called Sticky Fingers on High Street Kensington.
“They would go there a lot. Especially Harry – he always loved the barbecue ribs.”
