Jack Nicholson proves all work and no play makes Jack Torrance a dull boy, in Stanley Kubrick's 1980 film "The Shining," which will show at the Bama this fall.

Halloween-ish movies dubbed the Fright Film Series will possess the Bama starting Tuesday, Sept. 30. The lineup includes animated 2006 horror-comedy “Monster House,” Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 “The Shining,” 1993 witchy comedy “Hocus Pocus,” and 2010 thriller “Insidious.”

Also coming up at the Bama: About 10 days before part two of the “Wicked” fantasy musical, subtitled “For Good,” opens in cineplexes, the Bama will hold a sing-along version of part one, released last fall.

Then in winter, a Season’s Screening Series will include Frank Capra’s 1946 classic “It’s a Wonderful Life,” with Tim Allen comedies “The Santa Clause,” from 1994, and “Christmas with the Cranks,” 2004, and concluding with Robert Zemeckis’ 2004 “The Polar Express.”

“Monster House” (2006), rated PG, showing at 7 p.m. Sept. 30. 13-year-old DJ keeps an eye on across-the-street neighbor Nebbercracker, who destroys tricycles of kids who trespass on his lawn. When DJ’s parents travel at Halloween, leaving him with abusive babysitter Zee, he calls clumsy friend Chowder to play basketball. When the ball bounces onto Nebbercracker’s lawn, the kids discover the house, not the old man, is the monster.

Next up is “The Shining” at 7 p.m. Oct. 14.
